Foreword by Wil Harris
Micke Gustafsson, aka GoTaLL, is one of Sweden's top modders, along with his part-time nemesis and part-time partner in crime, Wolverine. We've seen his work on
bit-tech many times before! With DreamHack, Scandinavia's (and possibly the world's) largest LAN party, coming up this month, Micke went on a modding mission to complete a car-ful of cases before the event. Here, we've showing off some of the final results - many of the worklogs are in the Project Logs forum, and you can click through to those for the full details of cases that you like. We hope you enjoy this peek of a master modder at work!
Introduction by Micke Gustafsson
Hello again people! It's time for DreamHack Summer 2006, and this is one LAN event that is getting bigger and bigger each time. With 5000 tickets sold for this event, the organisers think they will break the attendance record for the DreamHack Summer event. To read more, check out the
Dreamhack homepage.
I will attend DreamHack with a Swedish online computer store called
Datorbutiken.com . I'll be engraving cases live and showing off some computers I made for this event.
This is a event you
have to visit, it just can't be explained in words. It's gaming to the max - hardware, competitions and lots and lots of people!
The Sweclockers case
Let's start with the case that is my major project on show at DreamHack. This is a mod that I've been planning for a long time! My home site, (except from
bit-tech!) is a Swedish site called
sweclockers.com and I've been planning to make a case that is very stand-out and 'represents' the site.
The site itself is much like
bit-tech but in Swedish - it's not easy to make a case that represents that! I thought I would try and combine a case that represents the people that read the site with the subject matter of the site itself. This dude is going to be a cyborg/android!
You can check out the entire project log over in the
bit-tech Project Logs forum[/i].
I got this dummy from a Swedish auction site. It was pretty thin and flimsy, so I bulked it up with fibreglass.
'Dr GoTaLL' went to work on the torso, hacking it apart to make room for the insides, and creating some war damage on the chest. The rear has a hole for the CD drive to go in.
I got a foam head and covered it in plastic mush. I then used a foam-melting glue to hollow out the inside to make room.
I painted the head, added some battle damage and a mask.
